We recently had the chance to transform just such a neglected, asbestos-riddled home into a stunning dual-residence beachfront haven. Taking this abandoned eyesore and creating a magnificent two-storey residence with a separate granny flat was definitely a challenge, but one we were thrilled to tackle. The finished product? A luxurious coastal retreat that’s perfect for family living while offering incredible entertainment spaces, all with those to-die-for ocean views we all dream about. Let’s be honest – this project threw some real curveballs our way! The beachfront location presented tricky logistics with pretty limited access for our team and materials. Being so close to the neighbours meant we had to be super careful with our planning and scheduling. We made sure our materials deliveries and trade schedules were spot-on to minimise any disruption.

We had a blast incorporating some really cool design elements in this home. We put all the main living spaces upstairs to make the most of those gorgeous ocean views, and created this effortless flow between indoor and outdoor areas. We also added features like deep eaves, strategic orientation and lots of cross-ventilation to keep the place cool naturally. As coastal custom builders, we know how important it is to work with our climate, not against it.
The butler’s pantry next to the main kitchen is a game-changer for anyone who loves to entertain (and who doesn’t when you live in a spot like this?). We also made sure the separate one-bedroom flat matched the style of the main house while being completely independent. It’s perfect for guests, older kids, or even as a little holiday rental earner.
