While there is a huge range of options with definite pros and cons to each, it’s understandable how this can become such a hot topic of conversation. Here in southeast Queensland, we know that climate plays a huge part in our design and materials choices, and flooring is no different. As it happens, vinyl plank flooring is having its moment thanks to its durability, moisture resistance and overall quality. With the rise in popularity, of course, comes a lot of questions – especially to overcome any doubt – so we wanted to do our bit to make this part of your building design journey easier. Which is better: vinyl sheet flooring or vinyl plank flooring?
Well, if you’d asked us a couple of years back, the answer might have been a little different – or at least, a little closer in terms of our personal preferences. Realistically the vinyl plank flooring products that are available now are versatile, durable, easy to install, come in a huge variety of colours and styles, and won’t break the bank. Best of all, if damage occurs, you only need to remove and replace the affected areas, rather than tear the whole sheet up and start over.
Does vinyl plank flooring scratch easily?
Most vinyl plank flooring options will be designed for the rough and tumble of daily use. Manufacturers will generally include a protective layer to reduce the number of dents, scuffs and scratches from daily wear and tear. High heels, pets and kids – the usual culprits of floor damage – shouldn’t cause too many headaches with this flooring system.
Pro Tip: it’s probably good to offer a caveat here – as with most things, it’ll depend on the quality of the materials you choose… You get what you pay for!
Which is quieter: vinyl plank flooring or laminate?
You might be surprised to find that vinyl plank flooring offers a peaceful existence for your household. Vinyl flooring, especially when the installation process includes a high-quality underlay, can minimise the sound of everyday household occurrences like footsteps or dropped items. Simply due to the way it’s manufactured, laminate can produce a louder, hollower sound.
Is vinyl plank flooring slippery?
This is actually an easy one to answer… In short, no. While there is that additional protective layer of UV-cured urethane to combat scratches and so on, this should impact the experience of enjoying your vinyl plank flooring. If you find there is any kind of difficulty, however, there are easy solutions to ensure everyone in the household is safe from slips and trips:
- Anti-slip vinyl plank options
- Anti-slip treatments
- Additional floor coverings (i.e rugs)
- Wearing shoes or walking barefoot in the house (rather than socks)
